City Climb

Feeling like Spiderman for once? You have had this opportunity since November 2021 in New York City. 30 Hudson Yards, the same building that houses The Edge, now has the world's highest via ferrata. At a height of almost 390 meters you have the opportunity to climb a small part of the skyscraper.

I "The most spectacular attraction in New York City"

In groups of up to eight people, the alcohol-tested climbers are allowed out into the fresh air at the top of the triangular high-rise building. Before you can climb the 161 steps of the 45 degree inclined ladder up to the platform called "Apex", some preparation is required. First you will be asked if you have any ailments that make your ascent more difficult. For example, heart problems or pregnancy are exclusion criteria. Then you will be measured and weighed. To be allowed to take part in the ascent, you must not be shorter than 1.50m or taller than 2.00m. The 140 kg mark must not be exceeded. After you have been instructed in the safety measures and you have also signed for them, you still have to take an alcohol test. This should be 0.0 per thousand. Then finally comes one of the two guides that will later lead you to "Apex". After one or two battle cries, we go to the 100th floor of "30 Hudson Yards". At the height of the viewing platform "The Edge" you come into a room made entirely of glass where you can be admired by all "The Edge" visitors. There you will be equipped with a blue body suit, which should ensure that nothing falls on the streets of New York, helmet and climbing equipment. Safety at City Climb is paramount. You will be checked several times by different people to ensure that everything on you is properly seated and attached.

I "Plan enough time"

After exiting the next elevator 50m higher, you will be raked into a moving rail. A door opens and after a few meters you are in front of the 161 steps that lead up to the "Apex".

The feeling of standing there, free without any barriers, is indescribable and causes the first beads of sweat to form on your forehead.

161 steps later and at the top, you have the option to lean forward or backward over the ledge of the "Apex".

“Put your heels on the edge, bend your knees and push off,” the guide instructs.

Soft knees pre-programmed.

Photos and videos are taken by the guides. At the end of the tour you will receive a QR code with which you can later download everything.

TICKET for City Climb

Phase I:

For me, City Climb is by far the highlight in New York City. No attraction in New York offers you this adrenaline rush like City Climb.

As soon as you stand outside for the first time, free, outside of any limitations, and look almost 1200 feet straight down into the canyons of Manhattan, your pulse increases immeasurably. There is no other thing you can do in New York that gives you that feeling and that freedom.

When we stood on top of the "Apex" and the guide said: "Let yourself fall backwards", I felt a little different too. Taking your hands off the safety ropes was a huge feat. But you can completely trust the fuses and just let yourself get stuck.

Please plan enough time. The whole thing takes about 4 hours.

hp The $38 The Edge ticket is included in the City Climb price. After the spectacle, you can rest and relax on "The Edge" viewing platform.

I Problem:

Since the attraction is new, there can always be problems. In our case, we couldn't retrieve our QR code. After writing back and forth several times, we finally got the pictures. Unfortunately, the picture quality leaves something to be desired. Of course, at the price of $185 without tax, one hopes for super great pictures.

The next problem was that from a technical point of view (statement "30 Hudson Yards") no video of the tour could be made available.

Of course we hope for everyone that these errors don't happen again.

Despite everything, the $185 without tax is justified.

I The "Hudson Yards" building offers you much more than City Climb

- There is a mall with designer shops and a few restaurants on the ground floor to the third floor.

- The most spectacular restaurant is on the 101st floor and is called Peak where you can enjoy lunch or dinner.

- On the 100th floor you will find the highest open observation deck in the western world "The Edge"
