Taking the subway through NYC

The subway, also known as the metro, is the most popular means of transport for people in New York, even if it is always stuffy in the summer and the heat is almost unbearable. There is then cooling in the wagons, since the air conditioning in the metro is set to be extremely cold. The MetroCard is a prepaid card that you can buy at any subway station for $1. You can load any amount of money onto the MetroCard. Of the many different ones, here are two: - Per-Ride-MetroCard - you buy a MetroCard for $1 and load as much money as you want. - 7-Day Unlimited – $33 (2022) and ride as many times as you want for seven days from first use. With these MetroCards you can use the subway, the MTA buses (not the express lines!), the MTA Long Island Bus, the MTA Staten Island Railway, the MTA Bus Company, the Westchester Bee Line buses. Tip: Many offer the MetroCards online for purchase. However, I recommend that you buy the card in New York City, as the online prices are considerably more expensive and shipping is usually added.

I Pre-Ride-MetroCard

This MetroCard is worthwhile if you only want to use the subway from time to time. A ride costs $2.75, whether one station or from Manhattan to Brooklyn.

Tip: You can also use one card for several people. Just pass the card on. So you save yourself the one $1 for the other MetroCards that would accrue.

I 7-Day Unlimited

I recommend this card to anyone who often wants to use the subway in New York. For $33 you can ride the subway as often and as much as you want. Even if you are not in New York for seven days, the MetroCard is worth it for twelve trips or more.

Tip: You can change any MetroCard from a Per-Ride MetroCard to a 7-Day Unlimited MetroCard or vice versa at any terminal whenever you want.

Ride the Roosevelt Island Tramway with the MetroCard

With the MetroCard New York you can also ride the Roosevelt Island Tramway!

I Geheime Subway Station City Hall

The City Hall subway station served as the gateway to the first New York City subway line from 1904 to 1945.

The only platform is on a wide loop and is traversed non-stop by Line 6 trains, which begin and end at the nearby Brooklyn Bridge station. If you want to see the train station, take the 6 train to the last stop towards downtown Manhattan and just sit there.
