The JOKER’S STAIRS

The Joker's staircase in the Bronx has become iconic following the release of the 2019 film The Joker. On these stairs, the film's protagonist dances while smoking a cigarette. This staircase is located in the Bronx, one of NYC's least touristy areas. The stairway connects Shakespeare and Anderson Avenues at 167th Street. Formerly known as the "Shakespeare Stairs", many tourists dubbed them the "Joker Stairs" after the film's release.

I How do you get to the Joker Stairs in the Bronx?

When you've visited all the major attractions in Manhattan, you should take the subway and visit the Joker's Stairs in the Bronx.

Getting there from Times Square is relatively easy:

Take the 4 (green) subway from Grand Central Terminal and get off at 167th Street.

The stairs are just a few steps from the subway exit.

Once you've visited Joker's Stairs, I recommend you visit Yankees Stadium as well.

It's less than 10 minutes walk from the stairs.

I Is it safe to visit the Joker Stairs in the Bronx?

This question is not easy to answer. Although crime in the Bronx has dropped 70% over the past 20 years, visiting this area of NYC is less safe than, say, staying in midtown Manhattan.

If you decide to visit the Joker Stairs, I recommend you do it during the day and preferably not alone.

I Guided tour of the Bronx

If you are unsure about visiting the Stairs on your own because you may not be comfortable with the Bronx, then I recommend a tour with my friend Oli from OliDayTours.

He knows the area better than anyone else. You will also explore a few other spots in the Bronx with him.
