Die 132 Stelzen Insel
I history
Little Island stands on the site of Pier 54. Pier 54 was a pier that has served various purposes over the years. In 1912, survivors of the Titanic disaster arrived at Pier 54. In the 80s and 90s the pier was a community space where many events took place.
In 2012, Hurricane Sandy struck the New York City shore and severely damaged several piers along the Hudson, including Pier 54.
In 2013 the decision was made not to renovate and a new location for the public space was considered.
In the end it became Little Island, a place of nature and art.

I What makes Little Island special?
The construction and architecture of the island is unique and makes it visually special.
The island was laid out with gentle hills and lots of greenery. The particularly beautiful view of the skyline of New York and Jersey City should also be emphasized.
Little Island is a place of art and culture but also a place for everyone. Art exhibitions or concerts are regularly held in the large amphitheater. Personally, I just really like walking along the paths on the island and enjoying the magnificent view.
